Jon Carpenter

Client Services Volunteer

Volunteering with the American Red Cross and specifically the Client Casework team has been rewarding beyond anything I ever expected.  I have had the opportunity to work with a great team at the West LA office which has taken the time to train and mentor me.  They truly took me under their wing and provided the motivation a new volunteer needs to stay engaged and continue learning.

I remember how nervous my first call to a Disaster Client was, but how satisfied I felt after hanging up, knowing we were truly making a difference in someone’s life at a time when they needed the help the most. I am proud to be a part of an organization the exemplifies values I use in my everyday life. I am always amazed when closing a case how many times clients give thanks to the Red Cross for their assistance, over and over. Being a part of a victims recovery from beginning to end can be a roller-coaster, sometimes heartbreaking, but most often rewarding.  It really gives me that warm feeling inside that every volunteer craves and is the reason I give so much of my free time.

Additionally, The Red Cross  has provided great skills training in customer service and networking while assisting clients from all walks of life and partnering with hundreds of other orgaizations throughout Los Angeles.  The Red Cross has given me more then I can ever give back, and I encourage anyone thinking about volunteering to go to that first meeting, It could change your life too!”
