Justin Horn first signed up to donate blood when he was 16 years old, after learning how many lives could potentially be saved through blood donations.
Now a senior at Brentwood School, Justin oversees the school’s annual blood drive and also is president of the Brentwood School BADD (Brentwood Aid for Disease and Disaster) Club and a member of the American Red Cross High School Leadership Club. He is proud that the last blood drive at the school potentially saved 162 lives.
Wanting to do more to support the Red Cross, he organized an additional summer blood drive and decided to raise money for Red Cross International Services by participating in the SoulCycle’s “Soul Cycle Ride to Save the World” at the end of the summer.
When he was unable to obtain a grant to pay for fundraising costs, his family offered to underwrite his efforts. In fact, Michael and Susan Horn, were so inspired by their son’s commitment to shine a light on Red Cross international disaster preparedness, they also rode in the fundraiser and invited several friends to participate.
Justin, who wanted the event to be “memorable and inspiring,” enlisted the support of Red Cross Major Gifts Officer Audrey Simmon, who helped him set up the event on Eventbrite to maximize outreach efforts.
His efforts paid off and Justin raised more than $5,000 for Red Cross International Services.
“I hope it can be an annual event because I think we can raise even more money and save more lives,” said Horn.
Great Work!
