The American Red Cross has dedicated itself to making the public safe for more than 100 years.
Although many people know we offer CPR/First Aid courses, it is only one of the many courses we offer. Did you know that we teach swimming lessons and lifeguard training?
The American Red Cross offered the first national water safety program in the U.S. and is still the gold standard for aquatics training. Over the past century, the Red Cross has helped reduce accidental drowning deaths by nearly 90% nationwide. Now, during its Centennial Swim Campaign, the Red Cross is focusing on cities across the nation that have a high rate of drowning, including Los Angeles. Locally, the L.A. Region has partnered with the County of Los Angeles South Aquatics Department to train swim instructors and offer swim lessons across the county.
The American Red Cross L.A. Region trains thousands of local residents each year in lifesaving skills through its community and workplace courses. In FY 2014, we trained more than 47,000 individuals in CPR and First Aid, and more than 57,000 people in Water Safety. We even offer a class for Babysitters.
