On April 6, the American Red Cross will implement changes to divisions and regions across the nation to align Humanitarian Services regions and Biomedical Services regions into mutually supportive service areas. At the Region level, the Inyo County, Mono County and Kern County parts of the LA Region will join the Red Cross Central California Region, so Los Angeles County and the LA Region will be one and the same.

Within the Region, you will see some important changes to our chapters and Disaster Cycle Services (DCS) territories. We have engaged our DCS and chapter leadership teams in a two-year process to ensure our chapters and territories are perfectly aligned without split zip codes, providing greater clarity about service delivery, response duties and operational coordination.

For example: Currently, Glendale is in the Northern Valleys Chapter, which is primarily DCS Territory 1; however, Glendale is in DCS Territory 2, which primarily covers the San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys Chapter. Starting April 6, the chapter and territory containing Glendale will be one and the same.

Additionally, as part of the national effort, we were asked to standardize chapter names according to Red Cross guidelines. Working closely with our chapter leadership, including boards and volunteers, new chapter names were selected. In some cases, the names are barely different, and in others, they are quite different.

Above is a map showing the new LA Region chapters/territories.

Next Steps – Our Volunteer Services team is working hard to update Volunteer Connection to reflect these changes and will be sending follow-up communication to affected volunteers. Note that we made every effort to minimize changes, so the majority of volunteers will see no change. In the meantime, you should always feel free to reach out to your volunteer supervisor for more information.
