As summer vacation comes to a close, parents–especially those with younger children–become busier with their jobs and may not have someone to rely on to take care of the children. Likewise, many high school and college students would enjoy having a side job to earn a bit of money and a sense of responsibility. Babysitting might seem like an easy job, but there are many tips and lessons to learn that not every babysitter knows. Plus, the more qualified a person is, the better chance they have of getting a job. One great way for a babysitter to get an edge in the job pool is to take a Red Cross Babysitting & Child Care Training course either online or in-person. This is clear in the fact that “8 in 10 surveyed parents said they would pay more for a trained babysitter who holds a Red Cross babysitter certification.”
The program provides comprehensive training to enhance a participant’s skills, while also being fun and interactive; and, if training is taken online, it is extremely convenient because it can be accessed at any time. It is also a time saver when compared to in-person training. However, the in-person training provides hands-on skills practice with instant feedback. It also includes a Handbook and Emergency Reference Guide. Regardless of which course is taken, the information one learns from the program is extremely effective and will look great on any babysitter’s resume, because it displays effort and commitment.
The great thing about these courses is that they are in-depth and teach everything that is necessary to be a good babysitter for babies and children up to 10 years of age. Examples of some things taught in these babysitting courses are how to feed children, how to choose age appropriate games and toys, and how to handle behavior problems. One of the most important things taught is safety, not only for the children, but also for the soon-to-be certified babysitter. It will also help the participant gain a sense of confidence in handling everyday emergencies, like a skinned knee or a stomach ache. Another great feature of the course is that it provides help for running a babysitting business, such as advice for resume writing and tips for interviewing with parents!
