We know from experience that during large disasters such as Hurricanes Katrina and Sandy, many community members turn to houses of worship for comfort and support.
With more than 50% of Los Angeles residents reporting an affiliation with a religion, the American Red Cross Los Angeles Region is proud to partner with many faith-based organizations in both the good times (blue skies) and the bad times (gray skies). To date, we have partnered with 86 faith-based organizations of different denominations.
Our unique program works as a link for houses of worship to equip members and community partners with American Red Cross-approved resources for disaster preparedness and resiliency.
As a result of these partnerships, in FY 2014, we educated 1,096 participants in disaster preparedness, engaged 28,750 individuals at community outreach events, trained 254 people in CPR/First Aid, and collected more than 3,000 pints of blood.
